Individual Membership FAQs

2024 Updates

  • In addition to existing core membership options, we welcome the new $10 Supporter Membership to replace the previously existing Volunteer Membership. This membership is for members who are not athletes, or coaches and do not participate in on-water activities. This would include board members, administrators, parent volunteers, chaperones, and other team supporters.

  • College program administrators now have the option to purchase Basic memberships for their athletes that are valid for their entire collegiate careers. Administrators can select this option for affiliated athletes between 17 and 23 years old and membership won’t expire until December 31st of the year the athlete turns 23. Collegiate membership costs $50 and these members can upgrade to Champ for one year for $40. For questions about this new option, submit an inquiry here.

  • Bridge is a free upgrade from Basic to Championship individual membership for youth athletes with demonstrated financial restrictions. Bridge members will also receive waived entry fees at USRowing-hosted Youth Regionals and USRowing Youth Nationals.  If interested in applying, click HERE

    • They have demonstrated financial restrictions
    • The funding for the cost of USRowing membership and/or USRowing-hosted competition fees is not already covered by their club or school
    • Their rowing club is not already receiving an Open Doors organizational member discount
  • Basic, Championship, Collegiate, and Lifetime rates will not change in 2024, as blanket increases would be asking members who don’t participate in our insurance program to subsidize rising insurance costs for those who do receive our coverage. We’re replacing our free Volunteer membership with a $10 Supporter membership for board members and support staff who don’t row or coach. This fee is necessary to cover the increasing Safeguarding and administrative costs USRowing incurs regardless of whether a club participates in our insurance program.

Individual Compliance

  • Below are the items required for members to be compliant.

    • Active USRowing individual membership is required at all times. For members affiliated with a member organization, Basic membership will suffice. However, members racing unaffiliated must purchase a Championship membership.
    • All members must electronically sign the membership agreement and waiver. These are found on the landing page of your member portal. By signing them you’re agreeing to the Membership Agreement and Release of Liability.
    • Any member who is 18 years or older and is an athlete is required to self-attest. If considered a Relevant Adult Participant, members are required to complete the 90-minute SafeSport Trained course or applicable 30-minute refresher course. To access your SafeSport training, log into your USRowing individual member account using your member ID and password. You’ll see a SafeSport icon on the left side of your screen, where you can enroll and begin the interactive course.
  • All individual memberships are valid for 365 days from the date of purchase or, with the following exceptions:

    • Collegiate Basic memberships expire on December 31 of the year the athlete turns 23 years old
    • Legacy (gifted to all Team USA Olympic or Paralympic athletes and coaches) and Lifetime memberships never expire
  • Log into your USRowing individual account using your member ID and password. If your waiver has expired, you’ll see a red banner with a message reminding you to sign the agreement waiver. You can click “Sign Agreement & Waiver”, then check the agreement box and submit.

  • If you’re a new member who’s creating an account for the first time, complete the field “Club or Team Name”, by typing in your team’s name . If you already have an account but you’re not listed on your team’s roster, log into your individual account, click “Join Organization”, begin typing your team’s name and select it when it auto-populates. You’ll then be asked for a club code; this is a five-digit code that acts as an access code to join your team’s roster. You can request the code from your club. After inputting this information you can click “Join” and you’ll be successfully added to the roster.

  • You most likely have a duplicate account in our system, or you’re not added to the team’s roster. Log into your USRowing individual account to verify all your compliance items are up to date. If any have expired or are missing, update those and the system will automatically update your status to compliant. If everything is completed and up to date, submit an inquiry here and ask USRowing to check if you have a duplicate account. We can merge any duplicate accounts to fix this issue.

  • USRowing is committed to improving access to our sport. In 2023, we are committing up to $50k to the following membership programs:

    • Bridge. Youth athletes with demonstrated financial restrictions can receive a Champ membership for the price of Basic and waived per-athlete entry fees at the 2023 USRowing Youth Series regattas. You can apply through the USRowing membership portal; if approved, we’ll automatically upgrade you to Champ for the remainder of your membership at no cost.
    • Community. Participants in our STEM-to-Stern and Freedom Rows programs receive free Champ memberships. STEM-to-Stern athletes receive waived per-athlete entry fees at the 2023 USRowing Youth Series regattas. If you’re a youth athlete in need or a program administrator looking to learn more, submit an inquiry here.
  • You opted-in to Auto-renew  during check-out the last time you manually purchased your membership. We can refund your account if the charge was made within the last 30 days. Submit an inquiry here for questions, or to request a refund.

  • Yes. Any person who rows out of a member organization boathouse that carries the USRowing insurance needs to have a USRowing membership to be covered. If you are a member of the club you should purchase a Basic membership and add the club as your organizational affiliation. If there’s an agreement in place where you use a club’s facilities, equipment, or launch from their site but are not a member of the club, you should purchase the Championship membership. This is because if something were to happen to you as a recreational rower, we want to ensure that you have insurance coverage.

  • Participants who participate in learn-to-row camps or clinics for three days or less only need to sign the paper copy of the waiver. The club hosting the program should keep these paper waivers on file and archive them at the conclusion of the season or activity. If the camp or activity is more than three days (they do not have to be consecutive), Basic membership is required for each participant.

  • Yes, all athletes that reside outside the United States must register in the USRowing member portal and set up an International Membership (this is a free membership). You also must sign the agreement waiver as part of the process. You are not required to complete SafeSport training and insurance coverage is not extended.
